Go Time

Before the late August schedule that would break a weak team, the Baltimore Orioles get the murderers row of the Astros, Mariners, Padres, Giants, Diamondbacks and Rockies. They should win all these games.

While taking 17 straight games seems highly unlikely, the pivotal point in Baltimore’s season comes right now as they must collect and store wins in the wild card chase.

Sitting five games behind the surging Tampa Bay Rays and 4.5 games back of the Boston Red Sox, the Orioles come into the Houston series losers of their last two series and with a look of a wild card team.

You could point to slugger Chris Davis not hitting a homer since the All-Star break or two brutal losses against Kansas City, but the dilemma the Orioles face comes with their schedule in September. Baltimore faces Cleveland, Tampa Bay and Boston (twice) as they go down the stretch with a number of teams still in one of those coveted wild card spots.

Don’t look at the last two weeks of the season for the pennant race to unfold. It absolutely starts in August in Baltimore.
