Some things in life are givens.
You will always need a haircut around the holidays, pass interference on a football play can be argued for about half of the calls and the Gonzaga Bulldogs will shoot the three-point shot.
In front of an absolutely rocking Kennel in Spokane, Washington, the home Bulldogs (or Zags to the lay people) have spent an entire half of basketball chucking it up. The good news for Gonzaga? Half of them has actually gone in.
Gonzaga ends the first half with a 41-32 lead over Washington State and a percentage of 50% from beyond the arc. (10-20). Kevin Pangos has six 3-pointers at halftime. He’s three off the school record with twenty minutes to play.
They just can’t put away the Cougars. Gonzaga continues to rely way too much on outside shooting, which is an incredible risky game to play. If it works (and it has for the Bulldogs), all is good. If not, time to press the panic button.
Meanwhile, to put a bow on the slopfest in northern California, Stanford survives a non-push from Fresno State in an incredibly unwatchable game. An ugly win may be a win, but it’s 1 in the morning and I’m already grumpy.
Hoping for an exciting second half from the Kennel.
