Have We Met?

This look familiar.

I hate to bring this up, but haven’t we seen this before?

A 22-year-old kid with a game that’s years away from peaking jets to an early lead at a major in 2011.

Yup, Rory McIlroy shot a 65 in the first round. Again.

McIlroy sleeps on a three-shot lead in the 111th U.S. Open championship at Congressional Country Club. He carded six birdies and zero bogeys on a day where red numbers were the order of the day. He’s in complete control of a major championship — again.

You may remember Augusta. I know Rory does. That’s all McIlroy talked about in his press conference on Tuesday afternoon. McIlroy said he learned a number of things after his 80 on Masters Sunday when he tossed away his first major championship.

After round one, I believe him.

We have three long rounds to go where anything can happen.
