Placing No Blame

There are moments in life that make you question things.

Garrett Gomez was tossed from his mount on Thursday afternoon at Churchill Downs. Saturday night, he became the most hated jockey in America.

Gomez, aboard Blame, put a head past Zenyatta at the end of the Breeders’ Cup Classic in a honey of a race that lived up to its name.

Zenyatta lingered in the back of the pack and could not time her move to the wire.

She lost.

For the first time and last time in her career.

She leaves the sport without the aura of a perfect 20-0 record. It absolutely reminded me of the New England Patriots try for a perfect run a few seasons ago.

Don’t place blame on anything in the race. Sometimes you can’t stick your neck out.
