Lukas (With The Lid Off)

D. Wayne Lukas knows the drill by now. Show up four hours late with your horses and have photographers and reporters move locations three times before you talk with the press.

Then again, it was worth it. No other person in the game gives better soundbytes than the Hall Of Fame trainer. He’s a pro.

He fixed a problem in one of his vans this afternoon at a McDonald’s parking lot. He compared Dubin’s new jockey, Garrett Gomez, to Peyton Manning. He laughed off a 12 hour ride and seemed ready to start training at 5:00 AM on Wednesday morning.

The circus is in town and D. Wayne Lukas acts as the ringmaster of the Preakness.
