Nothing Could Be Finer

Now that everyone is wacko for Flacco after the sophomore quarterback dazzled in a 17-13 Ravens win on Saturday night in Carolina, I’d like to bring everyone back for a reality check.

It’s still preseason. The games still do not matter.

Regardless of that small but important detail, Flacco looked razor sharp as he threw for 247 yards and a touchdown against Carolina’s first team defense. At times last season, especially in the AFC Championship Game against Pittsburgh, Flacco looked like a rookie quarterback. Not any more. With crisp precision and uncanny accuracy, the Ravens may have found the finest quarterback in the history of their organization.

The only downside to the third straight preseason win comes in the form of the backups. In any position, if a starter suffers an injury, the level of play drastically drops off for the Ravens. Look at the formula over the last two preseason games. Take an early lead. Let the other team back into the contest. Eek out a win.

Then again, it is still preseason.

But just for another week.
