I Was Wrong

I was wrong.

It’s hard to believe, I know.

Philadelphia won the World Series on Wednesday night and I didn’t see it coming.

There was something almost magical about the Tampa Bay Rays in the postseason. Beating the Red Sox in game seven of the American League Championship Series, Tampa took all of the momentum and promptly wasted it in the first game of the World Series.

Chase Utley hit a 2-run homerun in the first inning in Tropicana Field and Philly’s mojo exploded from there. Getting two quality starts from MVP Cole Hamels, the Phillies coasted through Mother Nature and the Rays in just five games.

Unless you are from Philadelphia or have a penchant for lifetime losers, this World Series meant nothing to you. ESPN’s Peter Gammons called it “the worst World Series ever.”

Maybe so.

Then again, it took 50 hours to decide game five. If someone invests that much time in a game, shouldn’t you get something out of it?
