Needing to qualify to make it into the U.S. Open, Davis Love III may have just played himself into Saturday’s final group at Torrey Pines. Firing a second round of 69, Love strung together three birdies coming in to catapult his position on the leaderboard. He’s currently 1-under for the tournament and the leader in the clubhouse.
A former major champion at the PGA Championship, Love only finished in the top 25 in two tournaments this year. He’s only made just over $230,000 in the 12 tournaments that he’s entered. None of those are outstanding numbers.
On the other hand, he’s found his game at the most important time of the year. With two rounds down, Love has just two more to go for his first ever United States Open trophy. Then again, it’s almost 24 hours to wait until he will tee it up on Saturday.
A golf clap, please, for John Rollins. Firing a 68 on the most difficult day of the tournament so far, Rollins puts himself currently within four strokes of the lead.
